Nikki Haley, former South Carolina Governor and erstwhile U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, has for all intents and purposes set her 2024 presidential campaign in motion with the release of her controversial book, ‘With All Due Respect,’ about the behind-the-scenes goings-on during her tenure in the Trump administration. The book is being seen as her way of consolidating the support she enjoys among the neoconservatives, who are apparently all-in for her as their choice for President.
The Hindu-American community and those supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party have hailed the Supreme Court for delivering “a just and fair judgment,” and providing a “closure” and “victory” to both the Hindu and the Muslim communities. On the other hand, are the minorities, the liberals and the progressives, who call the verdict “flawed” and a “failure for democracy.”
Kshama Sawant, the die-hard socialist of Seattle City Council, continued to keep the banner of labor and working class aloft last week as she won the Nov. 5 City Council election, holding on to the seat in her second re-election since 2013. Standing in front of a massive “Tax Amazon” banner, Sawant declared victory Nov. 9 after the re-election race that was essentially seen as a battle between the socialist and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
It was a bolt from the blue for many in the Indian-American community when lawmakers, one after another, pilloried India in the Congress last month taking the Narendra Modi government to task for its alleged human rights violations against minorities, particularly its actions in Kashmir after stripping its special status under the Constitution.
