Shachi Mehra of California’s Adya restaurant has been named among Coast magazine’s top five chefs of Orange County. “By showcasing their own versions of modern fusion food,” the five chefs have made waves on the Southern California culinary scene, the magazine says.
At her restaurants in Irving and Anaheim, Mehra focuses on her passion: Indian street food, the magazine says in its profile of the New Jersey-raised chef. Born in India, her early family experiences helped to develop and shape her love of food and appreciation for balance, in flavors and in life, according to the restaurant’s website.
“Unlike other Indian restaurants, Adya fuses Mehra’s love for traditional flavors with her take on American comfort food,” Mehra’s profile says, adding that Mehra’s years as a vegetarian led the chef to experiment with meat alternatives. Her signature items: watermelon chaat and goat cheese naan.
