Sitar player Anoushka Shankar will reportedly contribute to the soundtrack of the Bengali film “Avijatrik,” directed by Subhrajit Mitra.

The film is based on the concluding part of the Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay’s epic novel “Aparajito,” on which Satyajit Ray’s “Apu” trilogy was based. Music for the master piece was composed by none other than the Pandit Ravishankar, Anoushka’s father.

Shankar was quoted in India media saying that she has grown up knowing and loving the music from the “Apu” trilogy. “To play a small part with the continuation of that story feels beautiful,” she said. However she said: “I wouldn’t say I am giving music but I’ve made a very small contribution to the soundtrack playing my sitar for the opening, which was really lovely to get to do on this really special project.”

Last year, Shankar released a brand new EP – “Love Letters” - a collection of songs about love, heartbreak and healing, featuring Ibeyi Alev Lenz, Shilpa Rao, and Ayanna Witter-Johnson.
