Kankana Chakraborty’s short film ‘Anurup’ wins 3 awards in Italy

Kankana Chakraborty’s Bengali short film “Anurup” (Mirror Image) has won three awards given monthly by the Saint Vincent, Italy-based Oniros Film Awards. The film, starring Chakraborty, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Mithu Chakrabarty in the lead, won the Best Indie Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay awards.

According to the Oniros Film Awards website, the international monthly and annual IMDb qualifying competition, celebrates films from all around the world with awards in different categories and genres.

“The OFA allows filmmakers to submit their projects to get them judged by award-winning industry professionals specialized in various fields and compete with other talented filmmakers,” the website says. The OFA aims to discover “high quality and ambitious films, to promote filmmakers’ works and to help them realize their dreams.”

The Times of India reported that “Anurup” is winning laurels at the festival circuit. Sabyasachi Chakrabarty won the award for Best Actor in an Indie Film at the Los Angeles Film Awards, and Kankana Chakraborty received the Platinum Award for Best Supporting Actress.

According to a IMDb synopsis, “Anurup” is a story of a father and daughter who've been estranged for 6 years; they are now manipulated to face each other. Will coming face to face solve the situation or make it worse?

Kankana Chakraborty’s other films include “Women Prayed and Preyed Upon (2013) and “Written By?” (2019).
