Kumail Nanjiani will be seen as the sword-wielding Kingo Sunen in the upcoming Marvel Studios project “The Eternals.” The July 18 announcement, made during Marvel’s Comic-Con presentation in San Diego, puts to rest months of speculation about Nanjiani’s casting.
Chinese film director Chloé Zhao has been tapped to helm the superhero ensemble film, which has a star-studded line-up that includes Hollywood A-listers Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie. Hayek will be playing the team’s leader Ajak, while Jolie has been cast as Thena.
The movie will also star Lauren Ridloff (“The Walking Dead”) as Makkari, Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”) as Ikaris, Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”) as Phastos, and Lia McHugh (“American Woman”) as Sprite. “The Eternals” will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe phase four and is set to hit theaters in November 2020.
Meanwhile, “The Big Sick” and “Stuber” actor will be heard as Jesus Christ in Fox’s “Bless the Harts.” The casting was recently revealed at the Comic-Con. “Bless the Harts” stars Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph as well as Bell and Barinholtz. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Lord Miller. The 13-episode first season premieres Sept. 29.
