Amazon has roped in actors Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden for “Citadel,” a global event series. The show, described in entertainments portals like The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Deadline and others, as an action-driven spy series, will be directed by “Avengers” directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

The series will have interconnected, local-language versions of the story in several other countries including India. The Indian series will be developed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., who directed Amazon’s “The Family Man.”

“Cannot wait to work alongside the super talented #RichardMadden and incredible Russo Brothers on this new series,” Chopra wrote about Citadel” on her social media handles. “Get ready! CITADEL will be a multi-layered global franchise with interconnected local language productions from India, Italy and Mexico. It will truly be global content.”According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, a local version of “Citadel” in Mexico to go along with previously announced productions in Italy and India was announced at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Jan. 14. The "mothership" version of Citadel will originate in the U.S. and star Madden and Chopra Jonas, THR said.

Former ABC Studios chief Patrick Moran has been working on “Citadel” since signing an overall deal with Amazon Studios in October. He will serve as one of the show's executive producers. Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio (Hulu's High Fidelity, History's Knightfall) will serve as writers and executive producers of the series, along with Moran, Mike Larocca and the Russo brothers.

Amazon initially unveiled “Citadel” in July 2018 with the idea of using the U.S. series as a "fire-starter" for multiple productions in other countries.
