Showtime crime series 'Ray Donovan' to get Indian remake

Locomotive Global Inc., an international production company, has acquired the rights from CBS Studios International to remake “Ray Donovan,” a crime series, currently in its seventh season on Showtime.

The series, created by Ann Biderman, premiered in 2013. The series stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Liev Schreiber in his first lead television role along with Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, Devon Bagby and Graham Rogers.

According to a synopsis on Showtime website, the series is set “in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous,” where Ray Donovan “does the dirty work for LA's top power players.” It describes Donovan “as the go-to guy who makes the problems of the city's celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear.”

Sunder Aaron, co-founder of Locomotive Global Inc., told the Indo-Asian News Service that the series “with its complex and gritty storylines and strong anti-hero central character, is in sync with the themes and genres that are resonating with Indian viewers right now." He said “India is one of the biggest entertainment markets in the world,” and “there is a voracious appetite for high-quality drama series throughout the region.”
