National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Ram Madhav headlined the 22nd Biennial TANA (Telugu Association of North America) conference July 4-6 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington D.C., attended by thousands of Telugus from all over North America and also from India.
TANA President Satish Vemana thanked the “huge crowd” for attending the event and making it a huge success. The organizers claimed that between 22,000 and 25,000 Telugus attended the event.
Besides Madhav, other guests included Pawan Kalyan, the actor-turned politician from the Janasena Party, who made his political debut in the 2019 May general election but failed to account for any successes in Andhra Pradesh as also writer and politician Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad (Padma Bhushan, who is the Chairman of the A.P. Hindi Academy, besides some state lawmakers and other politicians and film personalities.
News reports, however, said Ram Madhav faced a huge embarrassment at the conference when a section of the audience irked by his praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech, boo-ed him, asking him to get down from the stage and walk off the venue.
Ram Madhav cut off the speech immediately and left, according to a Tollywood.net report.“This irked President Satish Vemana who responded by urging the crowd to show some courtesy towards the speaker.”
At the beginning of the three-day conference, Tirumala Priests from India performed Venkateswara Kalyanam to the delight of the audience.
TANA also gave several awards, including Lifetime AchievementAward to NTV Chairman Tummala Narendra Chowdary, NTR cultural award to veteran actor Gummadi Gopalakrishna and Guthikonda Ravindranath Service award to DrGanga Chowdhury.
All guests addressed the crowd and wished the Indian community must progress and stand ideal for all others.President Vemana was praised by all the guests and donors for his service.
