A Maryland man who set himself on fire near the White House on May 29 has died. News reports say Arnav Gupta, 33, of Bethesda, a suburb of Washington, D.C., lit himself on fire around noon on May 29 on the Ellipse — south of the president's residence.
The Washington Post reported that Gupta was in a critical condition and was taken to the hospital on Many 29 evening.
A tweet from the US Park Police on May 30, confirming Gupta’s death, said he succumbed to the injuries on May 29 evening.
Meanwhile, TMZ, quoting an unnamed police source, in a May 30 report said that Gupta was "hallucinating on K2 — a form of synthetic cannabis known as Spice — along with PCP."
Photos from the scene show him being blasted with fire extinguishers while he was lying on the lawn.
News reports say that Gupta was last seen by his around 9:20 a.m. on May 29 when he left his home. Gupta’s family reported him missing to Montgomery County Police the same morning and a notice was put out asking for the public to help find Gupta.
Police said family was “concerned for Gupta’s physical and emotional well being.
