When British actress Jamila Jamil was new in Hollywood, she remembers looking for people that looked like her. That’s when she came across Mindy Kaling and life hasn’t been the same for her since then.
Speaking to Access Hollywood’s Sibley Scoles at the Elle Women in Hollywood event, the daughter of an Indian father and a Pakistani mother, said it’s actresses like Kaling who paved the way for brown people to shine in Hollywood. Meanwhile, Kaling took to Instagram to share a photo with Jamil, who wore a suit covered head–to–toe in reflective metal studs. “Red lip twinz,” she captioned the photo of the two.
Jamil is currently seen in the principle cast of the fourth and final season of “The Good Place,” a comedy about a group of people trying to navigate their new existence in the afterlife. According to UK’s Daily Mail, critics have highlighted her hilarious performance “as a name-dropping former socialite.”
Jamil, who is better known in the UK as a TV presenter, is said to returning to those skills for the upcoming TBS game show “The Misery Index.” She will be joined on the series by improv all-stars and contestants who will try to rank a variety of unpleasant real-life events on a 1–100 scale.
