YouTube has lost one of its unsung heroes — 73-year-old Narayana Reddy — star of Grandpa’s Kitchen, who died last month on his home state of Telangana.
Reddy was known for making an insane amount of food — be it chicken curry, lamb biryani or pizza or an Oreo chocolate cake — to feed starving orphans. The ever-smiling grandpa, who started his YouTube Channel, Grandpa’s Kitchen, in 2017, got popular because of his pleasant demeanor, his humanitarian work and his recipes.
Watchers were treated to not only his delicious recipes and his cooking style of working outside over an open fire, there was always soothing music in the background, as he explained his recipe, while chopping onions or marinating meat. His channel has over 6.1 million subscribers, and Reddy’s videos have been viewed hundreds of millions of times.
They’re worth a binge, not only because of the feel good factor, but also because the channel is monetized, and every view helps financially support the cause. But worry not, Reddy’s legacy won’t end here, as The New York Times reports, “his extended family will continue his work.”
