New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray declared Oct. 22, 2017 as “Hari Kondabolu Day,” in honor of the Indian-American comedian, at a Diwali celebration at Gracie Mansion. The mayor presented Kondabolu with a proclamation and praised Kondabolu for showing the world the power of words and satire, blending it with activism to “help move the world forward.” Kondabolu is among the many voices that have emerged to answer the hatred, de Blasio said.
