A group of Sikh activists has launched an online petition asking Indian-American Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Devi Harris to apologize to the community for allegedly defending a discriminatory policy in 2011 when she was California’s Attorney General. The online petition was launched last week by Rajdeep Singh Jolly, a Sikh lawyer in Washington, D.C.

The parents of a 6-year-old Indian girl, who died June 12 in the Arizona desert, say they made the journey because they were desperate to seek asylum in the U.S. In a statement released by the nonprofit Sikh Coalition June 24, the parents of Gurupreet Kaur said that they wanted a safer and better life for their daughter.

An American man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for a brutal attack on a Sikh American taxi driver in Seattle city last year. Swarn Singh, 53, was assaulted with a hammer by Rory Benson on December 16, 2017. The accused pleaded guilty to the attack and was given the sentence by a court in Seattle late last week, the community's civil rights group — Sikh Coalition — tweeted on Tuesday.
