GOPIO hosts public forum with elected officials

Members of the Connecticut chapter of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO-CT) with Consul General of India in New York Sandeep Chakravorty, sixth from left, and Deputy Consul General Shatrugna Sinha, fourth from left, at a public forum in Stamford, Conn., May 3.  Chakravorty called on to Stamford Mayor David Martin at the Government Center in Stamford, along with GOPIO-CT president Anita Bhat, past presidents Shailesh Naik and Shelly Nichani and treasurer Biru Sharma. Later in the afternoon, both met Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling along with GOPIO-CT officials and Norwalk’s Indian community leaders including Raj Misra and Anna Duleep as well as representatives of Norwalk’s Sikh Gurudwara. Chakravorty also met Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), who is a leading member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff.
